Grant Fund Donation Program

IOS members and friends, we need your help!

Several years ago the IOS Board initiated an IOS Grant Program. Each year awards up to $1000 are available to applicants conducting projects relating to birds and/or birding in Illinois. Funding has been provided from events such as the Gull Frolic and Big Day pledges.

Each year we receive many requests. They are reviewed in detail by our team of scientists, and we always hope to fund as many of the requests as possible – all are worthy of support. These requests come primarily from graduate students at various universities around Illinois, to support their research on birds. Some of the requests are for projects in their 2nd or 3rd year of field research.

The grants we award are important on 2 levels:

  • They provide critical funding for bird research here in Illinois, when other funding sources are drying up due to the state’s budget crisis.

  • They send a clear message to these students and their professors, saying “We value your commitment and dedication to bird related biological research. You are the future, helping maintain and expand quality habitat, identifying and correcting problems, assuring that the birds we so much enjoy will continue to thrive in Illinois”

So please donate if you can, contact your friends, neighbors, family, local clubs and organizations, etc. and ask them to help.
